Make your own way to Valencia and join Pillow for our tour of the crazy La Tomatina food fight and a Wine and Water festival in Spain. On the last Wednesday of August each year the small town of Bunol (near Valencia) welcomes 40,000 people and over 100 metric tons of tomatoes for the biggest food fight and party in the world. Festivities begin at 10am with people trying to detach a ham from the top of a 15 foot greased pole; however the main event starts at 12 noon when council trucks dump thousands of tomatoes into the crowd. Minutes later tomatoes are being hurled in every direction and everybody is covered with tomato skins and juice. The fun lasts until the local fire brigade spray water all over town to clean up the mess.
The night before La Tomatina we will visit the Wine and Water festival in Requena. This festival celebrates the start of the wine harvest with an all night party, including a party in the bull ring, parades and live rock concert until the early hours. This is an authentic Spanish celebration and the vast majority of people who visit the Wine and Water festival say it’s the highlight of their visit to Spain.
During this tour we will stay in the Ibis Valencia Palacio de Congresos Hotel located in central Valencia, 500 metres away from the Valencia Convention Centre. We will visit the Wine and Water festival on Tuesday evening, and participate in La Tomatina on Wednesday afternoon, and on Wednesday evening we will have a farewell party at Gandhara, one of Valencia’s hottest clubs and our favourite club in Spain! With a Pillow wristband you receive free admission and discounted drinks for the whole night! (food and drink not included).
