Climb Jebel Toubkal, the highest mountain in North Africa!
3 Day Tour from Marrakech to Marrakech – £235 per person – regular departures during summer!
Please note, for groups of 2 or more people, we can arrange departures on demand for the same price of £235 per person. Please contact us if our group departure dates don’t work for your itinerary.
Challenge yourself to climb the highest peak in North Africa in 3 days. The tour starts and finishes in the vibrant city of Marrakech, and includes transport to and from Imlil in A/C private 4×4 or minibus. We will trek with a local English speaking Pillow tour leader, a local cook and mules to carry our luggage. It’s a challenging walk rather than a climb, and anybody in good physical condition can reach the top. Make sure you bring your camera; the views from the summit are spectacular.
Please note we only offer this option in summer, it is possible to climb in winter but the mountain is snow covered and offers a more technical and dangerous climb. Summer trekking finishes at the end of September, and starts again in late May.
Day One (Sunday) (L) (D)
We will meet at your hotel at 8am for the one hour drive to the secluded mountain village of Imlil (elevation 1740 meters). Imlil is the trekking headquarters for the high Atlas, and is a great place to buy any last minute supplies. After we meet our mules we start our 10km (5 to 7 hour walk) uphill to Refuge Neltner (elevation 3207 meters), stopping on route for lunch and to enjoy the spectacular views. We will have dinner in Refuge Neltner and an early night as we have a very early start tomorrow.
(5 to 7 hour walk (10km uphill) 1467 meter ascent today)
Day Two (Monday) (B) (L) (D)
We set off as early as possible to avoid the sun and start to climb Toubkal. As we wont be ideally acclimatised we will set a very slow and steady pace upwards (If you do experience more than mild headaches or vomiting, you may have altitude sickness and you must descend immediately). We will follow the path to Tizi n’Toubkal (elevation 3940 meters) before we turn left for the final push to the sumit (elevation 4167 meters). Once at the top we have plenty of time to enjoy the views, before the descent back to Refuge Neltner where we will again spend the night.
(8 to 9 hours walking (12km up & back down) 960 meter ascent & decent today)
Day Three (Tuesday) (B) (L)
Today we have a relaxed walk down from Refuge Neltner, stopping at the small Berber village of Aremd for lunch, and eventually back to Imlil. We are then transferred back to your hotel in Marrakech where the tour terminates (early evening).
(5 Hours walking (10km downhill) 1467 meter decent today)
